Babe, I Just Got Fired
There wasn’t a mountain too high, valley too low, and river wide enough that prevented us from getting the job done.
My team was sharper than a No.2 pencil; the SAT would’ve been terrified of us.
We effortlessly slayed every dragon that entered our domain.
Our squad showed no mercy.
However, in 24 hours, everything changed.
An ally stabbed us in the neck and watched our blood percolate into the soil.
The sad part is that we shared the same insignia.
As we breathed our final breath, we asked: “Why would you do such a thing?”
They replied: “Budget cuts.”
I said to my men, “Farewell, gentlemen. It was an honor serving with you. I will never forget you—godspeed.”
On the way home, I was figuring out how to tell my wife.
Walking through the door, I’m greeted by my daughter running to me with excitement.
It’s incredible how much joy children can bring.
Praise God!
After a warm embrace, I looked my wife in her eyes and said, “Babe, I just got fired.’
Without hesitation, she began to jump for joy.
You’re probably thinking that I was perplexed by her response.
I wasn’t.
The same sword used to slay those dragons was the same sword that almost sliced my family in half.
At that moment, I was reminded of God’s faithfulness.
'Dear friends, don’t be surprised when the fiery ordeal comes among you to test you as if something unusual were happening to you. Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of the Messiah, so that you may also rejoice with great joy at the revelation of His glory. If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.'
